The Masters Preview: Who Will Don the Green Jacket in 2025?

The 2025 Masters Tournament is right around the corner, and excitement is building! Augusta National is ready to challenge the world's best golfers, and fans are eager to see who will emerge victorious and slip on the coveted Green Jacket.

Scottie Scheffler

Key Storylines to Watch

  • Can Scottie Scheffler Defend His Title?: All eyes will be on Scottie Scheffler as he looks to repeat his success from last year. Augusta National is a course that favors experience and course management, so his previous win gives him a definite advantage. Although Scottie's form so far this year has been mildly dissappointing by his standards (-0.57 Strokes Gained against his baseline), he is still entering the week as the betting favorite at +400. Scottie is looking to become the first player to defend their Masters title since Tiger Woods in 2002.

  • Top PGA Tour Contenders:

    • Rory McIlroy: Rory's quest for the career Grand Slam continues, and Augusta remains his biggest hurdle. His recent form has been tops on tour this year, and Rory's game appears to be all systems go heading into the tournament. Improvements in putting (+0.4 SG compared to 2024) and approach play (+0.4. SG comapred to 2024) to go along with his always prolific driving numbers have him and Scheffler as a clear 1A and 1B above the rest of the field. Given Scheffler's slightly subdued start to the year and Rory's undeniable peak form, this Masters Tournament presents one of his most compelling opportunities yet to finally claim the coveted green jacket.

    • Collin Morikawa: Collin's precision iron play makes him a natural fit for Augusta. He's coming in with great form as he currently boasts the highest Strokes Gained over his last 20 rounds at +2.93. However, it's worth noting that he hasn't secured a victory since the 2023 Zozo Championship, and he failed to close out a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational earlier this season. He finished 4th at the Masters last year, but struggled on Sunday, carding a 74 that ultimately cost him a chance at the green jacket. Will Collin be able to get the job done this year and capture the third leg of the Grand Slam?

    • Ludvig Aberg: The young Swede has taken the golf world by storm, highlighted by two PGA Tour wins and a runner-up finish at the 2024 Masters. However, he has been struggling recently, missing his last two cuts leading into the tournament. Despite this, Augusta National is a great course fit for his game, given his prolific driving and exceptional iron play. After being in contention at both the Masters and the U.S. Open in 2024, the question remains: is he ready to break through and secure his first major championship victory?

Rory Mcilroy

  • Top LIV Golf Contenders:
    • Brooks Koepka: A proven major champion, Brooks knows how to win on the biggest stage, but the Masters Tournament continues to be one that eludes him. Since 2019, he has recorded three top-ten finishes alongside two missed cuts at Augusta. He's coming into this year's tournament in good form, highlighted by a solo second-place finish at LIV Singapore. The question is, while Brooks always seems to elevate his game during major weeks, does he still possess what it takes to finally conquer Augusta National?

    • Jon Rahm: Jon Rahm, formerly a dominant force on the PGA Tour, now brings his immense talent to LIV Golf. While he struggled in the first three majors of 2024 – a T45 at the Masters, a missed cut at the PGA Championship, and a withdrawal from the U.S. Open – he salvaged his major season with a T7 finish at The Open, suggesting he may have turned things around. A fierce competitor with a burning desire to win, Rahm is someone we expect to have a significant presence in the 2025 majors, eager to prove that he remains one of the game's elite players, regardless of tour affiliation

Brooks Koepka
